This is what it turned into - with the blinkenboard as a basis for the project:
A control panel "just about" alive again and driving/being driven my a modified SIMH
The SIMH code came from Jorg. It runs on a beaglebone black, has a wee cape that allows
fpr RS232. It pretty much works out of the box and does just what it says on the tin.
